A Major Addition to Our Fishing Destinations
We’re thrilled to announce that Iceland Fishing Guide has acquired the exclusive fishing rights for Litlaá and Skjálftavatn (Earthquake Lake), starting with the 2026 fishing season. This marks a major expansion of our fishing offerings in North Iceland and adds another world-class destination to our portfolio of premium rivers and lakes.
About Litlaá and Skjálftavatn
Litlaá is one of Iceland’s most distinctive rivers, known for its geothermal springs, clear water, and diverse fish population. Flowing through beautiful surroundings near the Arctic Circle, it offers exceptional opportunities for brown trout, sea trout, and Arctic char fishing.
At the lower end of the system lies Skjálftavatn, often called Earthquake Lake, a fascinating lake formed after seismic activity reshaped the valley floor. Together, these two waters provide anglers with an extraordinary mix of river and stillwater fishing — ideal for those seeking variety and natural beauty in one destination.
Exclusive Fishing and Limited Availability
Fishing on Litlaá and Skjálftavatn is limited to a maximum of 7 rods per day, maintaining the intimate and high-quality fishing experience that Iceland Fishing Guide is known for. The limited access ensures pristine conditions, minimal pressure, and optimal fishing for each guest.
Lodging Options
A range of accommodation options is available near the river and lake, including both self-catering and fully catered lodges. Whether you prefer the independence of cooking for yourself or the comfort of full service, we can tailor your stay to suit your needs.
