Geitafellsá

Geitafellsá means the goat mountain river and draws it’s name from the old goat house that is right next to the river. The river runs through plains below the lake Kringluvatn before gently flowing in to lake Langavatn. When the Lake starts warming up in summer, you can sometimes find hundreds of Char in the estuary, sitting in shallow water and sipping on midges on the surface. This happens because char generally like colder water and there fore stack up where Geitafellsá feeds the lake with colder water. The river is small and sensitive, perfect for dry fly fishing and nymph fishing. In June and July anglers can expect to catch good size brown trout. From late July the arctic char start migrating from the lake for spawning in great numbers.
