Among the top catches, a 90 cm salmon landed in Víðines stood out as one of the largest of the season. Not far behind, an 87 cm fish was caught in the tributary Seljadalsá, giving anglers a memorable battle. Several salmon measuring 80 cm were landed in key pools like Svartibakki, Syðstalág, and Víðines, which consistently delivered exciting catches. These sizeable fish reflect the great conditions on the river this year, giving anglers plenty of thrills.

Exciting News: Returns from Our Broodstock Project! We anticipate the return of salmon from our broodstock project in 2025, which should enhance salmon numbers on the Reykjadalsá. This initiative aims to support the local ecosystem and provide more opportunities for anglers in our community. The trout fishing also exceeded expectations in 2024. The trout were well distributed throughout the river, providing plentiful opportunities for anglers. Surface fishing remained productive right up until the end of September. In addition to dry flies, nymphs, soft hackles and streamers proved to be very effective. The trout in the Reykjadalsá River are thriving, with an increase in average size compared to the last few years. The largest trout recorded measured 61 cm, and many catches were around the 50 cm mark. While our main focus has been on fishing for trout and salmon, we’ve had some pleasant surprises along the way. A few stunning Arctic Char have found their way onto our lines as bycatch, adding an extra layer of excitement to our recent fishing adventures. Whether it was the excitement of landing large salmon in the upper pools or the abundance of trout throughout the river, the 2024 season on Reykjadalsá offered something special for everyone. With stunning surroundings, ample water, and impressive catches, it was a year to remember for all who fished the river.
